Shine On: Jeanette from Om the Moment

A few years ago, I was having a conversation with a co-worker about yoga and life and she came up with a mantra out of the blue: “OM the moment.”  We would often use it to describe moments in our life when we really connected with something.  When I was looking for a name for my yoga lifestyle blog, I knew right away that I wanted to use OM the moment. Here’s why… We say OM at the beginning and ending of a yoga class to pause and connect with our mind, body and soul.  My blog is about honoring these connections in your everyday life through common experiences. It’s about checking in (and I don’t mean Facebook) to what really matters to you and living your best life.

My parents migrated from New York to Miami when I was two years old.  I consider myself to be a native Floridian. I’ve lived within a 30 mile radius my entire life. However, Miami is changing and I’ve loved seeing how the city has grown and developed.  I still find new places and things to do that I’ve never done here before.

I created the blog to encourage an open dialogue with my students and anyone else who happens to stop by. My hope is that my blog posts will inspire people to find those moments where you check in to your mind, body and soul and make present, lasting memories every day.  Not because you are in a special place but because you are alive and have the opportunity to make them.

I constantly have a song stuck in my head and I’m usually singing or humming it.  I tried out for season 2 of American Idol and did not make the cut. Although the producers did allow me to sing my entire song, while others didn’t (just saying). I may not be a Mariah Carey but I can hold my own on Karaoke night.  My dream is to one day sing with a live band.
